The leaders of China and India have agreed to boost trade and work on resolving long-standing disputes, as they try to build trust between their two countries.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh said after their meeting in New Delhi Thursday they will try to increase trade to $100 billion annually by 2015. That would be a $40 billion increase from the current level of trade between the two economic giants.
According to a joint statement, the two leaders also agreed to work on reducing a trade gap that currently favors China.
Mr. Wen made trade a main focus of his three-day trip, bringing with him a delegation of some 300 business officials. The two countries signed several business deals worth $16 billion.
He and Mr. Singh also have agreed to try to resolve a long-running territorial dispute about their shared border.
The Indian leader said a strong partnership between the countries will contribute to "peace, stability, prosperity and development in Asia and the world."
