China's biggest milk-producing company has apologized after one of its managers was arrested for spreading false rumors about a rival company's product.The issue is highly sensitive in China, where parents remain nervous after six children died and more than 300,000 were sickened by baby formula laced with the industrial chemical melamine two years ago.
The milk company, Mengniu, said Friday that it has fired the manager, who acted without the knowledge of his supervisors.Police said they have arrested the manager and three employees of a marketing firm who helped him with his campaign. They say the four posted nearly 100 online comments spreading fears about the rival company's milk.
