然 而近日公布的“捐赠誓言”名单却对这一惯例提出了最新的挑战。这份名单里的亿万富翁承诺将把超过一半的财产捐出来做慈善。由盖茨夫妇(Bill and Melinda Gates)和巴菲特(Warren Buffett)发起的“捐赠誓言”今后可能会成为象征超级富豪地位的下一个重要标志。
《华 尔街日报》奢华人生栏目的博客作者弗兰克(Robert Frank)写道，美国的有钱人在大衰退之后一直在寻找新的地位标志；游艇、私人飞机和海边别墅。这些都是2007年时的标志。但够富有同时也够慷慨、从 而进入“捐赠誓言”名单也许正迅速成为在美国内外享有尊荣的终极标志。
到目前为止，这份名单涵盖了相当一部分华尔街的大人物，不过还是有 少数显要投资者尚未“宣誓”。当然，许多腰缠万贯的对冲基金经理和企业狙击手（译者注：通过大量购买股票以达到控制某一公司的个人）虽然没出现在名单中， 但他们已然是慷慨大方的慈善家。不管怎样，以下是对出现以及未出现在名单上的华尔街人物的分类与分析：

百 仕通(Blackstone)上市令彼得森(Pete Peterson)赚到了如今财富中的大部分，他出现在了名单中。同样在名单中还可以发现凯雷集团(Carlyle Group)鲁宾斯坦(David Rubenstein)的名字。而与彼得森联手创立百仕通、也从该公司首次公开募股(IPO)中获利颇丰的苏世民(Stephen Schwarzman)没有出现在名单中。
同样不在名单中的还有KKR的克拉维斯(Henry Kravis)、科尔伯格(Jerome Kohlberg)和罗伯茨(George Roberts)。
企业狙击手：
已在名单中的：佩雷曼(Ron Perelman)和雅各布斯(Irwin Jacobs)
不在名单里的：伊坎(Carl Icahn)，90亿美元；兰伯特(Eddie Lampert)，20亿美元；佩尔茨(Nelson Peltz)，11亿美元。
老派华尔街人物：
已在名单中的：前花旗集团(Citigroup Inc.)董事长韦尔(Sandy Weill)；前纽约证交所董事长兰贡(Ken Langone)。
不 在名单里的：前美国国际集团(AIG)首席执行长格林伯格(Maurice "Hank" Greenberg)和高盛集团(Goldman Sachs Group)首席执行长布兰克梵(Lloyd Blankfein)。不过也许布兰克梵甚至还不够格进入这份名单，因为他过去五年间获得的薪金总共“仅仅”才1.37亿美元。

Here comes the latest challenge: The recently released 'Giving Pledge' list, which includes billionaires who have pledged to away more than half of their fortunes to charities. Started by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett, the 'Giving Pledge' could prove to be the next ultra status symbol for the super rich.
'America's rich have been searching for new status symbols in the wake of the Great Recession,' writes the WSJ's Wealth Report blogger Robert Frank. 'Yachts, private jets, seaside mansions are so 2007. But being wealthy enough and generous enough to get on the Giving Pledge list may quickly become the ultimate badge of status-both in the U.S. and abroad.'
So far, the list has a sizable representation from Wall Street, but there are a few notable investors who haven't taken the Pledge. To be sure, many of the billionaire hedge-fund managers and corporate raiders who are missing are already generous philanthropists. Anyway, here is a breakdown of who from Wall Street is on the list and who isn't:
Hedge Funds:
Jim Simons, of Renaissance Technologies, has pledged half of his fortune estimated by Forbes to total $8 billion so did John Arnold, the wunderkind natural gas trader who raked in $1.5 billion in 2009.
Missing are Ray Dalio, of Bridgewater Associates, an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion; George Soros, $11 billion; Steve Cohen of SAC, $5.5 billion; John Paulson, $6 billion and David Tepper, $7 billion; and Paul Tudor Jones, $2.8 billion.
Private Equity:
Blackstone's Pete Peterson, who made much of his fortune taking the firm public, is on the list as is David Rubenstein of Carlyle Group. Stephen Schwarzman, who co-founded Blackstone with Peterson and enjoyed the IPO windfall, is missing.
Also missing are the namesakes of KKR: Henry Kravis, Jerome Kohlberg and George Roberts.
Corporate Raiders:
On the list: Ron Perelman and Irwin Jacobs
Missing: Carl Icahn, $9 billion; Eddie Lampert, $2 billion, and Nelson Peltz, $1.1 billion.
Old line Wall Street:
On the list: Sandy Weill, former Citigroup chairman; Ken Langone, former New York Stock Exchange chairman
Off the list: Maurice 'Hank' Greenberg, former AIG CEO, and Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman Sachs Group CEO, though probably wouldn't even qualify for the list, as his compensation totaled a 'mere' $137 million in the past five years.
