　　According to the show's storyline, Vanessa's character Renee is a friend of Felicity Huffman's character Lynette's from college, as well as being a cougar whose marriage to a Major League baseball player is on the rocks. In real life, the 47-year-old former Miss America used to be married to Canadian Rick Fox, a former NBA player. Vanessa's character decides to go after Bree Hodge's (Marcia Cross) younger beau, played by Brian Austin Green.

　　Green was in the original cast of Beverly Hills 90210 and is now married to Megan Fox.It has now been revealed that Reggie Austin, from comedy show Life Unexpected, has been cast as Renee's husband Doug.

　　Vanessa has spent the last several years honing her mean streak.

　　She has no problem revealing her claws after playing arch villain Wilhelmina Slater in another ABC hit series Ugly Betty, where she proved she can play evil with comic timing.

　　Vanessa earned three Emmy Award nominations for her role as Wilhelmina.

　　After the show was cancelled earlier this year, she went back to her theatrical roots and starred on Broadway in Sondheim on Sondheim.

　　Now she's headed to Wisteria Lane and couldn't be happier, but promises her role won't be as over the top as Ugly Betty's Wilhelmina Slater.

　　'I hope I bring a little glamour, a little of the outside, out-of-town girl into Wisteria Lane,' she said. 'But I can't be in another show. It's not Betty World.'

　　Vanessa also revealed getting signed up for the show was the 'fastest deal ever', adding:

　　'The day I met Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, I thought it was just a general meeting.

　　'But I sat down and he said, "Listen, Steve McPherson would love you to join our cast. Do you watch the show? Would you be interested? If so, we’ll come up with a character together".

　　'I said, "Wow, let me think about it". Then we talked about Broadway for the rest of the meeting, and when we left, he said, "I’ll have the agents get into it". And it was done in four days. It was the fastest deal ever!'

　　她回忆到与剧组签约的过程更是雷厉风行，“与制作人见面那天，我以为这只是简单的碰个头罢了。他对我说，‘非常希望你能加入，你看这剧吗？你感 兴趣吗？我们可以一起创造一个新的角色’。之后我们都在聊一些话剧方面的事情，临走的时候我告诉他，我会让经纪人和他谈谈的，谁知道，四天之内便签下了合 约，真是最快的一次。”
